The chairman of the Oromo Federalist congress, Professor Merera Gudina and Ambassador Mike Hammer, US special envoy to the Horn of Africa met on Monday, May 13th 2024 at the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Finfine to discuss issues and solutions surrounding the political stability of Ethiopia.
The two discussed the various political and security challenges Ethiopia is currently navigating through and what is urgently expected from the government of Ethiopia, the various major political forces in the country and the international community, especially the United States
Professor Merera underscored the urgent need for a credible political arrangement that guarantees the free participation of all major political forces in the country through exercising a fairly shared responsibility to facilitate comprehensive political settlement including the next free, fair and all inclusive election.
Professor Merera reconfirmed the continuation of his partyβs multi decade tradition in offering a sober and dedicated alternative for peace and democratic governance.
He also emphasized the importance of the role of the international community, including the United Staes in pressing the Ethiopian government to prioritize the safety and security of its citizens that are currently going through mushrooming civil war, dangerous political instability and unbearable economic hardship.
Ambassador Mike Hammer expressed his concern about the stability of Ethiopia and the need for all stakeholders coming together to solve the countryβs political problems for lasting peace and stability.
